Umbrellas & Other Objects
I’m at Southdale Library in Minneapolis, where I’ve come across a title, “Brollilogy” by Marion Rankine which follows the use, appearance, and depiction of umbrellas in life and literature. The umbrella is transformative, may be open or closed. Aesthetic, useful, performative.
Got me wondering: What objects or tools have traversed fantasy’s literary history?
Some of these may be delightful tropes, others something else. Symbolic, aesthetic, or any of myriad other dimensions.
